What The Numbers On Produce Stickers Really Mean

Have you ever wondered what the numbers on those produce stickers mean? The four or five-digit numbers can actually tell you a lot about the produce you buy.
Although they seem like a nuisance, the stickers or labels attached to fruit and some vegetables have more of a function than helping scan the price at the checkout stand. The PLU code, or price look up number printed on the sticker, also tells you how the fruit was grown. By reading the PLU code, you can tell if the fruit was genetically modified, organically grown or produced with chemical fertilizers, fungicides, or herbicides.tomato
Want to know if those Gala apples are organic, the potatoes conventionally grown, or the corn genetically modified? When you shop for produce, it’s important to keep in mind that some fruits and vegetables have more pesticide residue than others.

Here are the basics of what you should know:
1. If there are only four numbers in the PLU, this means that the produce was grown conventionally or “traditionally” with the use of pesticides. The last four letters of the PLU code are simply what kind of vegetable or fruit. An example is that all bananas are labeled with the code of 4011.
2. If there are five numbers in the PLU code, and the number starts with “8″, this tells you that the item is a genetically modified fruit or vegetable. Genetically modified fruits and vegetables trump being organic. So, it is impossible to eat organic produce that are grown from genetically modified seeds. A genetically engineered (GE or GMO) banana would be: 84011
3. If there are five numbers in the PLU code, and the number starts with “9″, this tells you that the produce was grown organically and is not genetically modified. An organic banana would be: 94011
Produce that is labeled as organic cannot include any intentionally added genetically modified ingredients. An organic farmer is not prevented from calling sweet corn organic even if pollen from genetically modified corn plants blew in from other fields.
Certified organic produce is labeled in words reading “certified organic,” and you can also tell by the price.

The Affordable Care Act That Really Works

QN Organic Self Healing Clinics – A Member of The Nutritional Research Foundation
• Diabetes, obesity, heart disease, stroke and dementia are ravaging our health in the 21st century.
• 72% of Americans are either overweight (38%) or obese (34%).
• 90 million Americans have either diabetes or pre-diabetes.
• More than 1 in 3 U.S. adults (81million) currently live with one or more types of cardiovascular disease.
• Cancer is a preventable cause of death significantly linked to diet and environmental factors.
• The Center for Disease Control says that 80% of ALL chronic disease is caused by diet and lifestyle!
• Prescription medicines have been shown to be a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Along with our association with The Nutritional Research Foundation, we at QN Organic Self Healing Clinics will continue to study diet styles designed to maximize the body’s own potential for maintenance and restoratoration. Such a diet has the following specific features:
1. High nutrient density which enables the body to maximize healing and repair. Consumption of adequate raw greens and cooked green vegetables in conjunction with beans, nuts, seeds, onions, mushrooms, and a more limited amount of starchy vegetables, carbohydrates, whole grains and fresh fruit to all together supply at least 90 percent of caloric intake.

2. Consumption of plant foods with low caloric density enables feeling “full” with fewer calories. Studies have demonstrated that caloric restriction is associated with increased longevity. A diet with high nutrient content and reduced calories affords powerful self protection against disease.  When this type of diet is applied clinically, remarkable health results occur, and you will experience “affordable care” that does really work! The best care is always “self care”!

Clinical Weight Loss for Summer

We have been teaching weight loss for 8 years on the qnorganic.com web site and have tried to help you understand the different aspects of weight loss. We have had some great products through the years and have helped a lot of people. Now with Biotics Research Corporation we have all the products that we lacked to help the people who had sticking points in their weight loss program.
1. Balancing pH for weight loss. First you need to eat 2/3 fruits and vegetables to 1/3 protein and grains. This is very, very important for 2 reasons. It is easy to eat too many grains, and grains spike insulin. You will not loose weight if you are always spiking your insulin levels. You need to read labels and understand that you need to limit your carbohydrates to 25 grams a meal and no more that 100 grams of carbohydrates a day. So try to cut rice, potatoes, and boxed cereals out of your diet. Eat no more than 1 piece of sprouted bread a day. You also need to limit your fruits to no more than 3 pieces a day.

2. Helping stress levels with supplements. If you are worried all the time your body will have too much cortisol in your blood and this will stop thyroid hormones from converting and will shut down the pituitary, and the whole endocrine system will be functioning at a lower level.

3. Balancing the thyroid gland. Most people never get the nutrients that the thyroid needs to function at its best. Products from Biotics Research Corp. have all the nutrients the thyroid needs to stay healthy.

4. It is so important to sleep in a dark room and have the temperature around 70 degrees. Also, unplug all the electrical devices in your bed room and don’t charge you phone on your night stand. If you have trouble sleeping make sure you don’t work on your computer just before bed because there is a light given off that will prevent you from sleeping soundly.

5. Start with Biotics NutriClear which is a powder supplement that will help to detoxify the body. Take 3 scoops a day – 1 before every meal. NutriClear has food source protein and all the vitamin and minerals to help stop food cravings. It has a pleasant taste and mixes well in any liquid. NutriClear is also a great product for somebody who has cancer and cannot handle food very well.

The other product is Biotics ProMulti-Plus. So many times people just do not have the nutrients they need to help control blood sugar levels or the minerals they need so the body is always hungry. Take 2 of the ProMulti-Plus with breakfast lunch and dinner.

6. The diet:
Breakfast would look like this. 2-3 eggs, 1 piece of sprouted bread with raw honey, 1 piece of fruit.
Snack: 1/2 cup raw nuts and seeds or 1/2 avocado, 2-3 ounces or raw organic cheese or 1 cup yogurt or kefir, 1 piece of fruit.
Lunch: 1/4 pound of organic meat, fish, chicken, or turkey and large salad or soup or steamed vegetables and 1/2 piece of fruit.
Dinner: 1/4 pound of organic meat, fish, chicken, or turkey and large salad or soup or steamed vegetables and 1/2 piece of fruit.

7. As you cut out all the carbohydrates in large doses you will need to replace them with good raw fats. Biotics Mixed EFA Oil goes great on sprouted bread with honey and on salads. Also eat 1/2 cup or raw nuts and seeds per day and have 1/2 avocado with the above oils. These are very filling foods and once your body adjusts to eating these foods you will not have the sugar cravings you used to have.

See Dr. Cindy’s Video on our Weight Loss Category for the key Biotics supplements for weight loss.

This plan will help you loose weight, feed your adrenal glands, feed your thyroid gland, help with stress, and help you get a good night’s sleep.

Food as Self Healing Medicine

The Greek physician Hippocrates, known as the “father of medicine,” said, “Let food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food.” We think he’s right, too, because what he knew centuries ago has been confirmed by science today—that food can be medicine. However, one must choose food wisely—whole organic foods, including plant foods.

Likewise, food is more than just energy or calories; it also contains hidden information that communicates to your genes and results in your state of health. Whole, organic, unprocessed foods positively speak to our genes in their native language, so eating foods closest to their natural state can help our bodies be their healthiest.

You’ll also want to make sure your food is organic. Why? The USDA Certified Organic seal means high-quality, pure, nutritious foods that are not filled with toxins, including prohibited pesticides, GMOs and much more. Organic foods help keep the body clean, too. For example, scientists confirm that eating an organic diet makes pesticide levels in the body drop to undetectable levels, while pesticide levels return almost immediately with a non-organic diet. It’s no wonder, though, because over one billion tons of pesticides are used in conventional farming in the United States each year.

And while certain foods can serve as “medicine,” other foods can do the opposite. For example, processed foods have had those phytochemicals purged from them, and they speak negatively to your body.

The truth is that there are more than 320,000 processed foods and beverages available to us on the market. They can cause a host of problems, too, including genetic communication breakdown, but processed foods have been with us for decades. For example, in the 1970s, major changes in U.S. agriculture led to an overproduction of corn and an extra 500 calories available daily for every American—mostly in the form of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), which is hazardous to health and has no vitamins, minerals, or enzymes and robs the body of micronutrients. Additionally, HFCS messes with healthy cholesterol and insulin levels and converts to fat faster than any other sugar, while raising serum triglyceride levels—and that’s not a healthy combination.

What commercial, processed foods also do is provide a host of unwanted toxins, including multiple pesticides, GMOs and others. Simply put, they’re not the kind of food that act as “medicine.”

Hippocrates was right, though. Food can be medicine—the right kind of food, that is. So, choose your food and your nutritional products wisely.

Serious Side Effects of 2 New Weight-Loss Drugs

Qysmia and Belviq
The major ingredient of Qysmia, phentermine, was once prescribed widely as the “phen” part of the Fen-Phen weight-loss drug, which was withdrawn from the market in 1997 after it was linked to both high blood pressure in the lungs and heart valve disease.
Qsymia was initially denied FDA approval in 2010 because of potential side effects, including heart palpitations and birth defects — such as cleft lip in babies — if taken by pregnant women. The drug also has other major side effects, including, possible numbness in the arms and legs.

Belviq may cause serious side effects, including “serotonin syndrome,” particularly when taken with certain medicines such as drugs used to treat depression and migraine. The drug may also cause problems with attention or memory.
Other common side effects of Belviq include headache, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, dry mouth, and constipation. In patients with diabetes, side effects can include low blood sugar, headache, back pain, cough and fatigue.

The cost of the drug is relatively modest, at least compared to other medications on the market, and may range between $100 and $200 for a month’s supply.
But neither drug, despite the splash they’ve made in the news, is likely to make a significant dent in America’s obesity crisis, with two-thirds of the population either overweight or obese.

The problem that all the drug companies are overlooking is the fact that obesity is not only related to diet and exercise but also to hormonal imbalances, stress and lack of sleep.

Cholesterol: The Top Foods to Lower Your Numbers

Diet can play an important role in lowering your cholesterol. These foods can lower your cholesterol and protect your heart.
• Oatmeal and oat bran

Oatmeal contains soluble fiber, which reduces your low-density lipoprotein (LDL), the “bad” cholesterol. Soluble fiber is also found in such foods as kidney beans, apples, pears, barley and prunes.

• Walnuts, almonds and more

According to the Food and Drug Administration, eating about a handful (1.5 ounces, or 42.5 grams) a day of most nuts, such as almonds, hazelnuts, pecans, pistachio nuts and walnuts, can reduce your risk of heart disease.

• Omega-3 fatty acids

Research has supported the cholesterol-lowering benefits of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids also help the heart in other ways such as reducing blood pressure and the risk of blood clots.

Cholesterol Myths That May Surprise You

Life insurance companies know a surprising secret about cholesterol that most doctors never tell patients: When it comes to rating your risk for a fatal heart attack, the least important cholesterol number is your level of LDL (bad) cholesterol. In fact, life insurance actuaries don’t even look at LDL levels, because large studies show it’s the worst predictor of heart attack risk. Instead, life insurance companies use a simple math formula to rate your heart attack risk: They divide your total cholesterol by the level of HDL (good) cholesterol. If the ratio is below three, and there’s no inflammation in your arteries, you’re practically bulletproof against heart attacks and strokes, even if your LDL is high.

Here’s a look at 5 common cholesterol myths:

Myth: Cholesterol is inherently evil.
Fact: You couldn’t survive without cholesterol, since this waxy substance produced by the liver plays many essential roles in our body, from waterproofing cell membranes to helping produce vitamin D, bile acids that help you digest fat, and sex hormones, including testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone.
Cholesterol is ferried through your body by molecular “submarines” called lipoproteins, such as low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL).

Myth: Low cholesterol is always a sign of good health.
Fact: Although low levels of LDL cholesterol are usually healthy, a new study reports that people who develop cancer typically have lower LDL in the years prior to diagnosis than those who don’t get cancer. Researchers compared 201 cancer patients to 402 control patients without cancer, matched by such factors as age, gender, smoking, blood pressure, diabetes, and body mass index. None of the patients had taken statins. Thirteen earlier randomized clinical trials of statin therapy also found a link between low LDL and cancer, causing medical concerns that statins raise cancer risk.

Myth: Triglycerides trigger heart disease.
Fact: Triglycerides, a type of blood fat, do not invade the artery wall and form plaque. However, high triglycerides mark another huge problem: insulin resistance, a pre-diabetic condition that is the root cause of 70 percent of heart attacks.

Myth: Eggs clogs up arteries.
Fact: It’s true that eggs are high in dietary cholesterol, with upwards of 200 mg, mainly in the yolk. Research shows, however, that eating three or more eggs a day boosts blood concentrations of both good and bad cholesterol. The LDL particles tend to be the light, fluffy ones that are least likely to enter the arterial wall, while the increased HDL helps keep the arteries clean, suggesting that most people’s bodies handle cholesterol from eggs in a way that’s unlikely to harm the heart. The researchers say that their findings add to growing evidence that eggs are not “a dietary evil.”

Myth: There are no visible symptoms of high cholesterol.
Fact: People with high cholesterol often develop yellowish-red bumps called “xanthomas” that can occur on the eyelids, joints, hands, or other parts of the body.

Clinical Proof: This One Nutrient Reduces Sudden Death

Dietary supplementation with Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acid can lower blood pressure in patients.

  • Omega-3 reduces cardiac deaths and cardiovascular events.
  • Dietary supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids reduces the incidence of sudden cardiac death in patients with myocardial infarction.
  • Omega-3 fatty acids supplementation results in a substantial reduction in plaque growth.
  • Omega-3 fatty acids improve vascular function in arterial disease associated with smoking.
  • Omega-3 fatty acid intake reduces the risk of coronary heart disease and mortality in diabetic women.
  • Omega-3 fatty acid consumption reduces hypertension.
  • The consumption of Omega 3 fatty acid reduces the risk of stroke in men and women.

Raising blood levels of omega-3 fatty acid levels is 8 times more effective than external defibrillators (AEDs), and 2 times more effective than implanting implanting cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) in preventing sudden death.

Self-Healing High Blood Pressure/Hypertension

Hypertension and High Blood Pressure

In the past we would tell those with high blood pressure that they must take a green grass product with vegetable juices. However, there was a problem – the products we had just did not taste good, and most people will not take a product that tastes bad.

Well this is not the case with Biotics NitroGreens. This product is made with all the key juiced greens, including barley grass, alfalfa grass, kamut grass, and wheat grass, with important sprout concentrates of broccoli, cauliflower and kale.

Sprouting increases the nutrient content of foods by 10 to 15 times, supplying vital nutrients for blood vessel health. Biotics put carrot juice and beet juice in the product to help cleanse the liver and kidneys. It is a medical fact that when the liver and kidneys are working at their best, blood pressure  will fall into normal ranges.

Last but not least, is organic acerola berry extract which is very high in vitamin C. Vitamin C is the key antioxidant for feeding the walls of blood vessels and feeding the adrenal glands.

What makes NitroGreens taste so good is stevia leaf extract and organic peppermint leaf. Peppermint is so soothing for an inflamed stomach, and this product will taste fabulous in any smoothie drink.

Biotics NitroGreens is by far the best organic juiced greens and organic vegetable product we have ever found.

Bio-CardioSirt BP is the most significant nutritional product we know of to help the blood vessels relax. There are 1000 mg of vitamin C, 2000 IU of vitamin D, 100 mg of vitamin B6, 2000 mcg of biotin, 87 mg of magnesium and 6,150 mg of taurine and grape seed extract. This combination of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants helps the liver, kidneys, and adrenal glands in a major way.

Biotics has known for years that grape seed extract would help the eyes, and taurine would help the liver and gallbladder, but to see these  2 nutrients in these amounts in one product is very, very exciting.

Potassium-HP with Magnesium was another missing link in our ability to help people with hypertension and high blood pressure. We need 5,000 mg or more per day of this important mineral.

When people are eating fast foods or canned foods, the salt level is so high that the body starts to retain fluid and the body has to raise the blood pressure to get the blood through the body. If you start to measure your salt intake and get it down to no more that 1500 mg a day and get your potassium levels up to 5000 mg you will see a huge change in your blood pressure.

Potassium-HP has 1200 mg of potassium and 120 mg of magnesium in 1 teaspoon.

Recommendation: Take 3 teaspoons per day and up your fruits and vegetables, organic meat, chicken, and fish, add organic dairy, and you will hit the 5000 mg of potassium per day easily.

Your bloating will start going away, your blood pressure will come down, and you will be a new you!

EFA-Sirt Supreme is fish oil and borage oil. In 6 capsules there are 750 mg of GLA. which is the key omega 6 fatty acid for hormone production, 900 mg of EPA and 600 mg of DHA. These two omega 3 fatty acids are key in brain health, nerve health, skin health and relaxing the veins.

There is also all forms vitamin E tocopherols in EFA-Sirt Supreme. Vitamin E has for years been used to bring inflammation out of the veins. We have worked with clients, in our clinics, who abused their diets, didn’t exercise, and had blood clots you could see in their legs and elsewhere. Know this: after vitamin E therapy and exercise, the blood clots where totally gone in two months!

These significant Biotics products will help feed all the cells in your body, and they are made up of things that we rarely eat.
